Office of the Auditor General

The Office of the Auditor General exists to support the State Legislature and Federal Government in meeting their constitutional responsibilities and to help improve the performance and accountability of government.

The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) is the State of Rhode Island's legislative audit agency. We conduct financial and performance audits to provide independent and reliable information to the General Assembly on a variety of topics, including the State's financial condition, its use of federal funds in compliance with federal law and regulations, and whether programs are operating efficiently and effectively. Our audits also provide valuable recommendations to help auditees improve their operations, enhance program controls, or provide services at a lower cost. Our audit reports enhance the accountability of State government by providing Rhode Island citizens with objective information on the operations of their State.
We adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards established by the United States Government Accountability Office and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
INTEGRITY
Our reports are designed to be accurate and objective and include information that is factual and useful.
RELIABILITY
Our audits shall be free both in fact and appearance from any personal, external, and organizational impairment to independence.
INDEPENDENCE
We strive to ensure that our work meets all auditing standards by consistently engaging the National State Auditor’s Association to examine and opine on our audit policies and practices.
