State of Rhode Island

Office of the Auditor General

The Office of the Auditor General exists to support the State Legislature and Federal Government in meeting their constitutional responsibilities and to help improve the performance and accountability of government.

Quality Management/Peer Review

The OAG is required to maintain a system of quality management to assure adherence to auditing standards in the conduct of its audits, the reporting of audit results, and the administration of the professional aspects of the Office of the Auditor General.

One element of that system of quality management is a required external review of the system or "peer review" performed by the National State Auditors Association which must be conducted once every three years. The OAG has participated in the peer review process since its inception and has continually receivedĀ  reports on its system of quality management and adherence to professional standards with a “pass” rating. A peer review rating of “pass” means that the office’s system of quality management is appropriately designed and is being complied with to provide the office with reasonable assurance of performing and reporting in conformity with applicable professional standards in all material respects.
